In September, we will be launching a brand new programme for secondary schools focusing on food waste, enterprise and innovation within the STEM curriculum.
Continuing our award-winning partnership with Whole Kids Foundation, Compost Matters will look at waste and how schools can make wonderful compost with the food waste produced by their school.
Each participating school will enjoy an educational visit to a farm specialising in composting followed by a workshop at school with a composting expert and soil scientist. We will then challenge DT students to design and build a composter which can be used in the school grounds to support the school's food growing.
Students will be able to use their technology and engineering knowledge to design and build the structure and, once the composter is up and running, they can explore the chemical and biological processes in their science lessons.
